This past February the BDMA had a parade on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) in the Blue Dome District in downtown Tulsa and that has people wondering...

Today we sat down with Muriel Hakim of the Blue Dome Merchants Association for an interview about the BDMA.

Thank you Muriel Hakim for taking time out of your day to sit with us, we are excited about everything going on downtown and we are thankful for the opportunity to do this interview.

First and foremost, what is the Blue Dome Merchants Association?

The Blue Dome Merchants Association is a group of businesses working together to better the image of the Blue Dome District and the greater Tulsa Downtown area. We are working hard to promote the Blue Dome Entertainment District and attract people to the area.

With that who are the members of the association?

Our members include American Parking,  Arnie's, Blue Dome Diner, Boomtown Tees,   Candy Bar, City of Tulsa, Dilly Deli, Dirty's Tavern, Dwelling Spaces, El Guapo's Cantina, Enso, Fleet Feet, FlyTrap, McNellie's Public House, Joe Momma's, Lee's Bicycles, Loose Leaf Co., The M.E.T. and Yokozuna

While the association is named after for the Blue Dome Entertainment District, could businesses in say Brady or Greenwood join the BDMA?

Our organization is in its early stages and we are building the infrastructure needed to meet our mission. At this time we can only accept businesses in the Blue Dome District.

Are there any promotions planned for this summer?

We can confirm at this time we will be doing the Blue Dome Arts Festival which is this weekend and July brings us D-Fest, we will announce other possible promotions once planning is completed.

What projects are you most excited about as a group?

With the Blue Dome Art Festival this weekend it's hard to not be excited. The Art, music and activities are really exciting to plan and be a part of.

Will the Blue Dome Merchants Association and or its members be doing anything to beautify its growing corner of downtown?

Since it is part of our mission as an organization the simple answer is yes. We are working with The George Kaiser Family Foundation, the City of Tulsa, and neighboring districts to work on a plan that beatifies the Blue Dome District and also makes us standout.

Now that we have gotten to ask some questions we would like to give you this time to close this interview out.

I would like to remind visitors how safe downtown is as a whole. We as an association take the safety of our guest's seriously. In our upcoming event the Blue Dome Arts Festival we will have off duty police as security and will have at least two over night to make sure everything is safe.

Thank you again for your time. We look forward to hearing from your association from time to time.
