Blue Dome Arts Festival May 20th-22nd
Posted by: Shanna Smith on May 20, 2011 03:46:57 PM -05:00The event will be located at the historical Blue Dome District at 2nd & Elgin, allowing 200+ vendors and performers to “show their stuff” at the 3 day arts festival.
There will be 150+ visual/craft artists, from OK and the surrounding areas, attending as merchants. Their crafts include painting, pottery, carving, photography, jewelry, home decor, and so on. A majority of these artists produce their art by hand and will be selling original works. We will also have an Emerging Artists section for students from several local schools including Tulsa Community College, Booker T Washington, Edison, and Webster. These artists have been sponsored by groups such as the Kaiser Foundation, Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and Blue Dome District.
Concerts, dancing and more will take place all day on the main stage located at 2nd & Elgin. The festival entertainment includes local musicians, belly dancers, pottery demonstrations, a blacksmith with a live forge, free beer tastings from an OK-based brewery group called FOAM, and Nicole McMahan with her famous ArtCars. (The Art BoxCar Children’s Parade will take place at 4pm on Saturday afternoon.) We will also have some surprise solos from our local TPD officers, and some scenes from the upcoming play As You Like It, directed by Jenny Guy of the Shakedown In T-Town Shakespeare Festival.
Let's not forget the Pirate Ship SeaWolf, a 1/4 scale sailing Galleon built by Silverwolf Productions. The crew of the SeaWolf will provide Ship walk-throughs and "Pirates for Hire." (You can have a friend or loved one captured and thrown into the brig! They must sing a song or pay a ransom for their own release.) Arrrgh!
It will be a ton of fun for all ages!
