Posted by: Robert Town on May 12, 2010 11:44:27 PM -05:00The Blue Dome Merchants Association brings the Blue Dome Arts Festival back for its 7thy year. Today we sit with Muriel Hakim of the BDMA to find out more about the festival.
Who exactly is behind the Blue Dome Arts Festival?
The Blue Dome Merchants' Association was lucky enough to work with The Art and Humanities Council of Tulsa, The George Kaiser Family Foundation, and Urban Tulsa Weekly to bring the seventh annual Blue Dome Arts Festival. Which starts on May 14th at 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM then continues on May 15th from 11:00AM to 9:00PM and finishes on May 16th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Anything new planned this year for the festival?
We will have a stage for local bands to play, a large children's area for the kids to play and express themselves with paint, chock and many other activities, we will also see a return of the emerging artiest booth for lesser and even unknown artistes to display some of there works.
How many artists and other booths do you expect this year?
There will be a little over 120 artists, musicians, and other booths at the 2010 Blue Dome Arts Festival.
Which new or returning artists are you excited about?
I am personally excited about the local musicians. I have heard so much about these bands and this will be the first time for me to head many of them.
What kind of music arts is lined up?
There will be an eclectic mix of artists ranging from acoustic folk rock to jazz musicians.
Can we expect any specials from any of the restaurants in the Blue Dome district to coincide with the festival?
The festival is about the artists and we didn't want to take the focus away from them. While we are open and all regular specials are running we will not be offering any specials for the Blue Dome Arts Festival.
Any sponsors you want to make sure you mention?
Urban Weekly has been helping us promote the Art Festival, The Art and Humanities Council of Tulsa, The George Kaiser Family Foundation have been instrumental in the success of the Blue Dome Arts Festival, and we also should mention our very own Blue Dome Merchants Association and all its members for making this possible.
Anything else you would like to add?
Nothing to add besides we are all excited about the festival and look forward to seeing everyone come to the festival.
